Here is a list of common questions Stockport Physio are asked. If your question is not answered, or if you seek further information about our service please email us questions@stockportphysio.co.uk or call us on 0161 883 0640. Will I benefit from having physiotherapy?
If you have one of the following symptoms you are likely to benefit from physiotherapy:
  • Pain
  • Joint stiffness
  • Weakness
  • Reduced range of movement
Physiotherapy is suitable for any one of any age. There are various different forms of physiotherapy treatment; tailor made to your problem and your lifestyle.

How many sessions of physiotherapy am I likely to need?
There is no set number of treatment sessions as every patient is unique. Your physiotherapist will be able to give you an estimated number of sessions following your initial assessment. This can change depending upon the progress you make. When your symptoms resolved you may be discharged, or if your symptoms plateau or do not improve your treatment plan may be changed or you may be referred onto a specialist.

What happens at my first appointment?
Your first appointment is called your initial assessment. At your initial assessment your physiotherapist will take a background history of your condition and assess you physically. The findings of the assessment will lead to a diagnosis, which will be explained to you clearly. Your physiotherapist will discuss treatment with you and formulate an individual treatment plan to get you on the road to recovery as quickly as possible.

Can I speak to a physiotherapist before I book in?
Yes, you can call us on 0161 883 0640 or e-mail questions@stockportphysio.co.uk to speak to a physiotherapist.

How long do I have to wait for an appointment?
At Stockport Physio our physiotherapists have flexible diaries to fit around you. We can see you in early mornings, evenings and Saturdays usually within 48 hours of your phone call, or sometimes on the same day.

How long do appointments last?
Your initial assessment usually lasts 1 hour, neurological assessments can take 1 hour 30 minutes. Follow up appointments are usually 30 minutes, or sometimes up to 60 minutes depending on your condition.

What should I bring with me?
You should wear loose, comfortable clothes to each assessment. The problem area should be able to become visible to the physiotherapist. X-rays and medical notes are also useful, but not essential.

How shall I pay?
If you are self-funding your physiotherapy treatment you can pay at each appointment with cash, card or cheque. We invoice solicitors and case managers directly if you have physiotherapy authorised.
